Charnwood Skye 7 Wood Burning Stove

The Charnwood Skye 7 is a modern freestanding wood burning stove combining clean lines with a soft contemporary design.

With a 7 kW rated heat output and a working range of 5–11 kW, the Skye 7 is designed for spaces requiring a higher-output stove. It will heat around 275m³ of room space. This freestanding fireplace is supplied with the Low Stand, giving the stove a lower profile within the room.

The Skye 7 can burn wood and suitable solid fuels, making it a versatile stove for South African homes.

The Skye 7 Charnwood fireplace is the larger of the two Skye cast iron fireplaces in the series so there is a Skye stove to suit smaller and medium sized spaces. Made from a combination of boiler plate steel and cast iron with a 10 year guarantee and, as a result, provides the best combination of durability and control, like it’s smaller counterpart (the Skye 5).

7 kW Wood Burning Stove

The Charnwood Skye 7 has a nominal output of 7 kW, with a heat output range from 5 to 11 kW.

When burning wood, it achieves 80% net efficiency. The stated efficiency when burning solid fuel is 81%.

The firebox accommodates logs up to 410 mm (16 inches) long.

The 7 kW rated output should be used when assessing the stove for a particular room. The 11 kW figure represents the upper end of its operating range rather than its nominal output.

Modern Freestanding Design

The Skye 7 has a classically minimal design with a soft modern edge.

Its cast iron casing gives the stove a distinctive appearance, while the large ceramic-glass viewing area provides a clear view of the fire.

The simple push/pull air control makes the stove straightforward to operate. Charnwood offers the Skye 7 in eight colours, including Black, Blue, Almond, Bronze, Brown, Green, Gunmetal and Pewter.

Clean-Burning Technology

The Skye 7 incorporates Cleanburn Airwash Technology and the Quattroflow Air Management System.

It also features a converting grate, cool-to-touch handle and drop-down throat plate. The drop-down throat plate allows the chimney to be swept through the stove.

Charnwood states that the Skye 7 exceeds the relevant Ecodesign standards and is DEFRA exempt for burning wood in UK smoke control areas.

Wood Burning and Solid Fuel

The Skye 7 is not limited to wood. Charnwood’s technical documentation provides separate performance figures for wood logs and smokeless/solid fuel.

The converting grate allows the stove to be used for the appropriate fuel type. When burning wood, use properly seasoned logs in accordance with the manufacturer’s operating instructions.

Low Stand Freestanding Configuration

This version of the Charnwood Skye 7 is supplied in the Low Stand configuration.

The Low Stand version measures approximately 568 mm wide, 390 mm deep and 709 mm high. Its listed weight is approximately 157 kg.

The lower configuration works well where the stove is intended to sit as a freestanding focal point without the additional height of the Store Stand.

Flue Connection

The Skye 7 has a 150 mm (6-inch) flue outlet with top or rear connection options.

A vertical rear flue adaptor is available as an option, providing additional flexibility when planning the flue installation.

Installation should follow the manufacturer’s requirements and applicable South African regulations. Correct flue design, clearances and hearth requirements are essential when installing a wood burning stove.
