Description
Plamen Gala Black Cast Iron Wood-Burning Fireplace
The Plamen Gala Black is a freestanding cast-iron wood-burning fireplace with a modern design and large glass door that provides a wide view of the fire. Its combination of durable cast-iron construction, efficient wood combustion and contemporary styling makes it a practical heating solution as well as a striking feature in the home.
The Plamen Gala has a rated heat output of 8 kW and a maximum heat output of 11 kW. Plamen specifies a heated space of up to 160 m³, while its current manufacturer specifications list an energy efficiency of 80.9%.
The Gala is manufactured from high-quality cast iron and has an enamelled finish for durability. It uses a 150 mm flue connection, weighs approximately 108 kg and accepts logs up to 40 cm long.
Why Choose the Plamen Gala Black?
The Plamen Gala combines a clean, modern appearance with the durability and heat-retention characteristics associated with cast-iron fireplaces.
Its large glass door creates a wide view of the flames, while the freestanding design allows the fireplace to become a focal point within the living space.
8 kW Rated Heat Output
The Plamen Gala has a rated output of 8 kW and a maximum heat output of 11 kW. The manufacturer specifies a heated space of up to 160 m³.
The manufacturer’s heated-space figure should be used as a guide when choosing a fireplace. The actual heating requirements of a home depend on factors including room volume, ceiling height, insulation, glazing, room layout and climate.
For this reason, fireplace output should be selected according to the characteristics of the space rather than floor area alone.
Cast-Iron Construction
The Plamen Gala is manufactured from high-quality cast iron, providing a robust construction designed for wood-fired heating. The stove is also protected with enamel to improve durability and finish quality.
Cast iron is well suited to radiant heating, allowing the body of the fireplace to continue radiating heat into the room during and after the fire has been burning.
Large Glass Door for a Wide View of the Fire
One of the defining features of the Plamen Gala Black fireplace is its large glass door.
The wide viewing area provides a clear view of the firebox and makes the flames an important visual feature of the room. Plamen’s technical documentation also describes the large glass door and the primary and secondary air supply used during combustion.
The fireplace incorporates an air-wash system designed to help keep the glass clearer while the fire is burning.
Efficient Wood-Burning Fireplace
The current Plamen specification lists the Gala’s energy efficiency at 80.9%, with a seasonal burning efficiency of 70.9%.
The fireplace is designed to burn wood and accepts logs up to 40 cm in length.
The combustion system uses controlled primary and secondary air, helping regulate the fire and combustion process.
Plamen Gala Dimensions
The Plamen Gala measures 450 mm wide × 981 mm high × 400 mm deep and weighs approximately 108 kg. It has a 150 mm flue connection.
Its relatively narrow footprint makes it an interesting option for homeowners looking for a freestanding fireplace without the width of a larger traditional stove.
Before purchasing, the available installation space, clearances, hearth requirements and flue route should be considered.
Is the Plamen Gala Suitable for Your Home?
The Plamen Gala can be considered for homes requiring a freestanding wood-burning fireplace with an 8 kW rated output and 11 kW maximum output.
Plamen specifies a heated space of up to 160 m³, but this should not be treated as a guaranteed floor-area figure. The amount of heat required depends on the home’s insulation, ceiling height, glazing, room volume, layout and climate.

A Modern Freestanding Cast-Iron Fireplace
The Gala’s clean lines and large viewing window give it a more contemporary appearance than many traditional cast-iron wood-burning fireplaces.
Its freestanding design allows the fireplace to become a central feature of the living space, while its compact dimensions of 450 mm wide × 400 mm deep make it suitable for a range of interior layouts.
The combination of an 8 kW rated output, cast-iron construction and modern styling makes the Gala one of the more contemporary options within the Plamen range.
Plamen Gala vs Plamen Aria
The Plamen Gala and Plamen Aria are closely related models, with both offering an 8 kW rated output and 11 kW maximum output. The key design difference is their base.
The Gala has a solid, tapered foot, while the Aria uses a raised pedestal design. South African retailers describe the two models as sharing the same basic fireplace design while differing in their lower support structure.
The Gala measures 450 × 981 × 400 mm and weighs 108 kg, while the Aria is approximately 450 × 1001 × 400 mm and weighs 118 kg.
If you prefer a solid, tapered base, the Gala is the model to consider. If you prefer a taller pedestal-style fireplace, compare the Plamen Aria Black pedestal fireplace.
