Description
Thermorossi Esprit 490 Insert Pellet Fireplace
The Thermorossi Esprit 490 is an insert pellet fireplace designed to provide efficient, automated pellet heating while fitting into an existing fireplace opening or purpose-built installation. With a nominal heat output of up to 10.5kW, the Esprit 490 provides a practical alternative to an open fireplace for homeowners looking for controlled pellet heating.
The compact insert format allows the fireplace to be integrated into an existing fireplace surround, creating a built-in appearance while retaining the convenience of automatic pellet feeding. The Esprit 490 also supports hot-air ducting, allowing heated air to be distributed beyond the room in which the fireplace is installed, subject to the manufacturer’s installation requirements.
Esprit 490 Insert Pellet Fireplace is a built in pellet fireplace with a self-cleaning burner. Made and designed 100% in Italy.

10.5kW Insert Pellet Fireplace
The Thermorossi Esprit 490 provides a nominal heat output between 2.6kW and 10.5kW, allowing the heating output to be adjusted according to the requirements of the space.
Thermorossi specifies a 10.5kW nominal output and 93.3% efficiency at nominal power. The manufacturer’s technical documentation also gives a heatable volume of approximately 280m³, although actual heating performance will depend on insulation, ceiling height, glazing, room layout and climate.
For this reason, the published heating volume should be treated as a general guide rather than a guaranteed room-size calculation.
Pellet Fireplace Insert for an Existing Fireplace
The Esprit 490’s insert format makes it particularly suitable for projects where an existing fireplace opening is being converted to pellet heating.
Instead of manually loading logs into an open fireplace, pellets are automatically fed into the combustion chamber. The result is a more controlled heating system that can be programmed according to the homeowner’s requirements.
Before an Esprit 490 is installed into an existing fireplace, the opening, clearances, flue arrangement, combustion-air supply and surrounding materials must be assessed against the manufacturer’s installation requirements.
The Esprit 490 should therefore be professionally installed rather than simply placed into an existing open fireplace.
Convert an Existing Fireplace to Pellet Heating
If you have an existing open fireplace that is rarely used because of the inconvenience, heat loss or need to continually load firewood, an insert pellet fireplace can provide an alternative heating solution.
The Esprit 490 can be integrated into a suitable fireplace opening, subject to the dimensions and installation requirements of the appliance. It provides automatic pellet feeding, programmable operation and controlled heat output while retaining the visual appeal of a fireplace.
For homeowners considering a fireplace conversion, the existing opening and flue should be assessed before selecting a pellet insert.
Self-Cleaning PelletPower® Burner
The Esprit 490 is equipped with Thermorossi’s PelletPower® patented self-cleaning burner.
The self-cleaning system is designed to help reduce the amount of manual intervention required during normal operation. This is one of the practical advantages of the Esprit 490 over a conventional wood-burning fireplace where ash and fuel loading require more frequent attention. Thermorossi identifies PelletPower® as a key feature of the Esprit range.
The Advanced cleaning PELLETPOWER® has new, more precise and refined construction technique guarantees safety and emissions under control. With Pelletpower the ashes are removed at the sides and collected in the drawer. The burner ensures constant efficiency without interruption and no waste of fuel. Even more advanced and industrialized thanks to the Advanced Cleaning technology, built in super resistant Incoloy 800HT alloy, which can be inspected and removed by the user.
Routine maintenance and cleaning will still be required according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Ductable Pellet Fireplace Heating
The Esprit 490 supports hot-air ducting, allowing heated air to be directed beyond the room where the insert is installed.
This can be useful in larger homes or layouts where additional areas need to receive heat from the fireplace. Thermorossi specifies a maximum individual ducting length of approximately 16 metres for the Esprit 490.
Ducting must be designed and installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications. The number of outlets, duct diameter, routing and installation conditions should be confirmed during the design of the system.
12.5kg Pellet Hopper
The Esprit 490 has a 12.5kg pellet hopper. Pellets are automatically fed into the combustion chamber according to the selected operating setting.
Thermorossi specifies pellet consumption of approximately 0.57–2.34kg per hour. Actual consumption will vary according to the selected heat output, pellet quality and operating conditions.
The automatic feeding system means that the fireplace does not need to be manually loaded with logs throughout the day, making pellet heating particularly convenient for regular home heating.
Programmable Pellet Heating
The Esprit 490 includes a weekly programmer with three programmed ignition periods per day, allowing heating periods to be scheduled around your daily routine.
The fireplace also incorporates Thermorossi’s Smart Info function, providing information about the appliance’s operation.
This programmable operation can be useful for homeowners who want the fireplace to provide heat at specific times rather than operating continuously.
Quiet Pellet Fireplace Operation
Thermorossi lists a sound level of approximately 36dB for the Esprit 490.
The fireplace also provides room ventilation and can be configured for hot-air ducting, giving greater flexibility in how heat is distributed through the home.
How Much Space Can the Esprit 490 Heat?
Thermorossi’s technical documentation gives the Esprit 490 a stated heatable volume of approximately 280m³.
The actual area that can be heated will depend on the home’s insulation, ceiling height, glazing, floor plan and climate. Open-plan spaces may also behave differently from homes divided into smaller rooms.
For an accurate recommendation, the fireplace’s heat output should be assessed together with the characteristics of the installation space.
Thermorossi Esprit 490 Installation
The Esprit 490 requires professional installation with the correct flue, combustion-air supply and clearances.
The manufacturer specifies an 80mm smoke exhaust connection and a minimum required draught of 12Pa. The existing fireplace opening and flue must be assessed before installation to determine whether they are suitable for the insert.
Where hot-air ducting is required, the ducting system must also be designed according to Thermorossi’s requirements.

Pellet fireplaces are friendly to the environment
These wood pellet Fireplaces have a computer system that ensures clean burning. This leads to a very low ash content and very low carbon emissions as they are CO2 neutral certified. The burnt pellets produce ash content of about 0.5 to 1 percent. Pellet fireplaces also emit very low toxic chemicals and smoke in comparison to gas, traditional fossil fuel stoves, or wood. These Pellet fireplaces are not only environmentally friendly but also very affordable compared to other sources of energy.
